A Collection of Quicksteps, Strathspeys, Reels, and Jigs by Donald MacDonald and Son, Pipe Makers, Edinburgh.
This collection contains a total of 119 tunes, (19 marches, 12 strathspeys, 56 reels, and 32 jigs). Although the sixth edition dates from around 1888, the first edition dates back to 1828 and was one of the first published collections of light music. The book includes several classic tunes (Sleepy Maggie, Kate Dalrymple, The Sheep Wife) along with others that are less well known. A nice collection of enjoyable light music that dates back nearly 175 years.

William Ross served as the piper to Queen Victoria, and his collection of pipe music was one of the most important piping sources of the late 19th century. The collection contains over 440 light music tunes and 41 piobaireachds. There is a wealth of good light music in this collection, with tunes suited to all ability levels. In addition, 16 of the piobaireachds in this collection are not found in either the Piobaireachd Society books or the Kilberry Book. The second and third editions of Ross' collection were the largest of the six editions that were published, and this CD presents all tunes from both of these editions..
